Preparing for fandemonium at FanFest 2012

Jacob Hoggard of Hedley at CHUM Fanfest

Through an unfortunate series of events, this will be the first time in years that I’ll be missing most of Canadian Music Week this year, but I am glad to be going to at least one event tonight. The good people at CHUM FM have invited media to their annual FanFest concert at the Masonic Temple, and they’ve brought in a few notable artists, including Train, Hedley, Carly Rae Jepsen, The New Cities, Victoria Duffield, Marianas Trench, and Kristina Maria.

CHUM always puts on a good show for fans, especially since, aside from media, this is a winners-only concert, but I feel pretty dumb about missing out on CMW. I love almost every type of music–I am not a music snob in the least, for the record–and I love pop, but what I love about CMW is being able to go out and hear any kind of music at all, from artists around the world, who I might not get to see perform otherwise. This will be a fun chance to see Train in a smaller venue (and I have a soft spot for Carly Rae Jepsen and Kristina Maria), but I won’t lie that I’ll miss going to the Horseshoe, Lee’s Palace, or one of the other venues that makes CMW such a brilliant night of music.

Stay tuned–I’ll have photos from FanFest tonight and over the weekend.

(Also, this is a random thought, but I really regret missing Arianna Huffington at the conference side of CMW. She’s a very interesting woman.)
