Catching up with ‘Orphan Black’, Neel Sethi for ‘The Jungle Book’ and other adventures

Orphan Black S4

The fourth season of Orphan Black returned to Space and BBC America tonight, and I celebrated the series return with an interview this morning with stars Kristian Bruun and Kevin Hanchard. You won’t see that video up on YouTube yet though since we talked quite a bit about tonight’s episode, so I’m saving it for Monday.

I also walked away with a fun little gift, courtesy of Space, which required a selfie. Check it out:

While I won’t give away much about the interview or the season 4 return, I will say that the big surprise is that the latest episode steps back a few years to show Detective Beth Childs (Maslany again, of course) before her fateful run-in with the front of a train. The episode explores some of what led to Sarah’s biggest problems.

Meanwhile, I’ve also been thinking about one of my favorite video interviews from the last few years: sitting down on-set with Tatiana Maslany for the first season of Orphan Black. The video has been my most popular interview on YouTube for a while now, and it’s also one of the most-watched video interviews with Maslany out there, so I have to say that I’m pretty proud of it. Hopefully I’ll get a sit down with her again before too long.

At the end of last week I otherwise got to talk to The Jungle Book star Neel Sethi, who had never acted before he got this huge role in a Disney film. He’s frankly a natural, and he was so much fun to chat with. He’s friendly and sincere, and he just seems ready to be a huge star. Stay tuned for that interview tomorrow, when the film opens in theatres.

Tuesday morning I was invited to the top of the CN Tower for a special announcement from Air Miles. As it turns out, the event was for Air Miles Detour, which is a contest to bring a major act to play a small Canadian town this summer, and people across the country can vote to pick their favorite place. Air Miles revealed that Meghan Trainor will be the act, and the towns are: Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Morin-Heights, Quebec; Mulmur, Ontario; Nelson, British Columbia; and Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia.

As a former east coaster myself, I’ll have to vote for Port Hawkesbury and their amazing fiddle pride, but you can cast your vote at detour.airmiles.ca, and I’ll be sharing more from the event shortly. Performers can also submit themselves so they can play ahead of the big concert, so check out the site for details on that as well. Scroll down below for a quick video from the event with performers Robbie and Matthew.

Last week I also had a chance to sample some beer as Heineken unveiled their new BrewLock keg technology. The new Heineken kegs are greener, since they’re recyclable and made with less materials, lighter, and they preserve the beer’s flavour much better than before.

I’ve been a fan of Heineken since I first started drinking beer, mainly because it was one of the few great beers on tap at a lot of bars. That made Friday’s event a can’t-miss opportunity for me, and they even trained people to pour the perfect pint.

So, what else have I been doing? I screened the mockumentary Operation Avalanche on Monday, about a group of CIA filmmakers who infiltrate NASA during the first trip to the moon back in 1969, but I can’t review it quite yet. I’ve also still got piles of things to watch and review, and I’m working on launching a number of interviews, plus a photo shoot I did with Toms products for their spring collection.

Coming up next, I’m not actually covering Hot Docs this year, but I’ll have some coverage of a couple of films that I wanted to cover. I’m also still editing videos and content from 12 Monkeys, which I’m sharing on Monday.

Here are a couple of my favorite shots otherwise from the Heineken event.
