This is a sad note to be starting Canadian Music Week off with, but I just heard that Canadian music legend Jeff Healey passed away today at the age of 41 after his life-long fight with cancer.

I remember listening to Jeff as a kid when his videos were on Video Hits, I remember seeing him on stage on a couple of occaisons, and I even met him once or twice at his club here in Toronto.

Any time I saw him he amazed me with his energy. He was a funny, dynamic, and massively creative guy who seemed to only capture a fraction of the attention he deserved, and the city is diminished for having lost him.

Take a minute this week and look up one of his tracks – there are few musicians who have the same passion for music, or who could match him on guitar.

My thoughts go out to his family.
