Sorry America, you’re not getting my money for this disaster

Sorry America, you’re not getting my money for this disaster

Earlier today this little button popped up on the Tumblr website, and I just had to vent a little about it.

For me, Tumblr is wonderful, and I’m a big fan of how the site is run and the causes they support, but when I saw this request on the sidebar today, I kind of flipped out.

Stepping aside from my usual entertainment posts, I got on the topic of the environment over on Tumblr and I wanted to post a little more about it here on my blog.

Media turning tragedy into Olympic shame

Media turning tragedy into Olympic shame

This has been an appalling day for the opening of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and the issue goes well beyond the events on the site of the Olympic Sliding Centre.

Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’ no more

Damn. So, apparently Spider-Man 4 is a dead deal. It was bug-sprayed. Stepped-on. Swatted. Flushed down the ethers of possibility.

Best. Ever. November 7, 2009

By W. Andrew Powell • Nov 7th, 2009 • Category: Features, Rants

“Best. Ever.” is a weekly conglomeration of things that made my week. And there was much rejoicing. This week, Ghost Rider 2 will be moody, the Oscar hosts have been announced, two of my new favorite games, Google’s Dashboard, and Max Barry’s Machine Man goes to Hollywood.

“Best. Ever.” is a weekly conglomeration of things that made my week. And there was much rejoicing. This week, the final season of Lost, Evil Dead returns to cinemas, no more Napoleon Dynamite, the Internet turns 40 (kinda), and maybe the new V won’t suck?

‘FlashForward’ sure makes me feel ‘Lost’

‘FlashForward’ sure makes me feel ‘Lost’

This evening I watched the first episode of ABC’s new series, FlashForward, and I’m officially hooked. The concept is fresh, the cast is good, and I’m seriously loving this vibe, but I can’t shake that it’s all somehow familiar. Kind of like déjà vu on TV, but the truth is, that’s more than just a coincidence.

Pros and cons of Disney’s Marvel buyout

Pros and cons of Disney’s Marvel buyout

Let’s be honest, today’s news that Walt Disney was acquiring Marvel is hardly likely to inspire cheers among anyone except shareholders. If you’re a fan of comic book movies, you probably see this as a death knell for some of the great hero movies of the last few years, including Iron Man, Spider-Man, and even X-Men.

That festival feeling

That festival feeling

My girlfriend laughs at me on a constant basis because I have a tell, as it were, when it comes to the movies.

When I’m really, really enjoying a scene or a moment in a movie, I get goosebumps on my arms. It’s not something I can control, but it’s one of those givens for me. Did this movie work for me? I don’t know… did I get shivers?

2009: Year of the crappy summer blockbusters

2009: Year of the crappy summer blockbusters

By W. Andrew Powell • Jul 25th, 2009 • Category: Movies & DVDs, Rants

The year is well over half-way through and I think it’s safe to say that this is the worst year for summer blockbusters in recent memory. I can’t actually remember the last time I was so disappointed by every major popcorn film that I had been anxiously awaiting.
