“Rock photography is dead”

By W. Andrew Powell • Jul 15th, 2009 • Category: Gossip & Buzz, Photography, Rants

Concert and music photographers have it tough today. Okay, that’s not exactly true – it’s my dream job, and it’s really just about being in the right place at the right time. That said, I really appreciate that at least one musician gets that the world of music, and concerts, has changed a lot in [...]

Going ga-ga for Jayde and Brody

By W. Andrew Powell • May 9th, 2009 • Category: Gossip & Buzz

I couldn’t help but notice that you’re all going a little crazy for stories about Playboy Playmate Jayde Nicole, who happens to be dating Brody Jenner from The Hills.

Now, I can’t stand that show, mainly because I’m not a 19-year-old girl, but I get why people like this duo of perfection. They’re both rather fetching examples of humanity (at least on the outside – I won’t pretend I know what they’re really like), and they practically represent everything we’ve come to expect from Hollywood (for good, and bad).

Rounding up the news this weekend and the focus is all about television, oh yeah, and aging singers who like bathrooms.

Ashley and her scandalously popular singing

By W. Andrew Powell • Mar 18th, 2008 • Category: Gossip & Buzz, Music & CDs, Rants, The GATE

Ashley Alexandra Dupré
You have got to give this girl credit, you can’t turn around right now without seeing the name Ashley Alexandra Dupré somewhere in the news, and she has apparently found a way to make this work for her.
Sure, being involved in a scandal with a New York Senator and being outed as a [...]

Ryan Reynolds signs up for ‘Wolverine’

By W. Andrew Powell • Feb 19th, 2008 • Category: Gossip & Buzz, Movies & DVDs

Don’t ask me why I’m shocked, but Ryan Reynolds has been cast as Deadpool in the upcoming Wolverine prequel to the X-Men films and I’m just totally not sure what to do with this information. As a former comic/X-Men fan, I think I can safely say it’s a perfect fit, but I’m still all shocked [...]

Oliver Stone readies Bush film

By W. Andrew Powell • Jan 24th, 2008 • Category: Gossip & Buzz, Movies & DVDs

Silly and lude comments aside, this makes me chuckle just a little bit. Oliver Stone has plans to release a film on U.S. President George W. Bush before he leaves office next January 2009. In a story over at the Guardian they’re saying Josh Brolin will play the role of Bush and it will be [...]

Heath Ledger found dead

By W. Andrew Powell • Jan 22nd, 2008 • Category: Gossip & Buzz, Movies & DVDs

Heath Ledger
This is really the kind of shocking, strange news I find hard to believe. Apparently Heath Ledger was found dead in his apartment in New York City. The New York Times has a report that says he was found unconscious by his housekeeper and a masseuse.
“They shook him, but he did not respond. They [...]

How do you spell Scrabulous? I-L-L-E-G-A-L

By W. Andrew Powell • Jan 17th, 2008 • Category: Gossip & Buzz, Rants

This debate is what I would call a no-brainer.
Scrabulous is one of the most popular applications run on Facebook. It boasts close to 600,000 users a day, and as a user myself, I can tell you I’m on it at least a few times each day. And for those of you who don’t know, it’s [...]

Brad Renfro: The trouble with Hollywood

By W. Andrew Powell • Jan 16th, 2008 • Category: Gossip & Buzz, Movies & DVDs

There have been a lot of reports today on the death of former child star Brad Renfro, who was found in his apartment in Los Angeles, and I think there is a lot that can be said about Hollywood from it. I’m going to leave the commentary on this one though to author and GATE [...]

Wave goodbye to the Oscars

By W. Andrew Powell • Jan 9th, 2008 • Category: Gossip & Buzz, Movies & DVDs, Rants

There is no question in my mind – if the writers strike continues much longer, there will be no Oscars. The Golden Globes have already taken the first bullet, because the WGA wouldn’t give them a special waiver and actors were unwilling to cross picket lines, and I’m betting the Oscars will suffer the same fate.
