Wet Bum director Lindsay Mackay & actress Julia Sarah Stone | Interview

by W. Andrew Powell

During the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, director Lindsay Mackay and actress Julia Sarah Stone sat down with me to talk about their perfect indie film, Wet Bum.

At the time, it was my favourite film that I had screened around the start of TIFF, and all these months later it still stands out as one of the best Canadian films in some time.

Writer and director Mackay presents a sweetly iconic view of adolescence with Stone playing the awkward but endearing Sam, who is stuck between working to clean apartments in a retirement home, finding herself, and swimming after school.

The film co-stars Kenneth Welsh, Craig Arnold, Leah Pinsent, and Jenna Nye, and opens in Toronto today at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

Watch the video interview with Mackay and Stone above to hear what the director had to say about bringing the story from script to screen, and how Stone felt about the character, and Mackay’s fantastic storytelling.
