    Review: Mary Poppins Returns

by Andrew Parker December 17, 2018
by Andrew Parker December 17, 2018

A joyous and somewhat purposefully frivolous reworking and ever-so-slight updating of a Disney classic, Mary Poppins Returns will reignite warm feelings in the hearts of those who adored and sung along with its iconic (but equally overlong and wonky) 1964 predecessor.

Review: ‘The Girl on the Train,’ starring Emily Blunt

by Andrew Parker October 6, 2016
by Andrew Parker October 6, 2016

Shockingly dull, inexcusably drab, and listlessly paced, The Girl on the Train feels about as exciting as being locked in a room with someone explaining what they just read to you for almost two hours instead of acting it out in any sort of cinematic fashion.

Film review: ‘Looper’ starring Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt

    by W. Andrew Powell September 28, 2012
    by W. Andrew Powell September 28, 2012

Rian Johnson just became one of my favourite directors, and all it took was one film. Johnson’s two previous films certainly impressed me, but Looper is a step forward for the writer and director. It’s a film that draws you in with the characters on an intimate level as hell starts to break loose, and despite the topic, it’s also a film that takes the story to heart.

TIFF ’12: Full scoop on day one at the festival

    by W. Andrew Powell September 7, 2012
    by W. Andrew Powell September 7, 2012

The first day of the festival was a great start to what I hope will be an epic year at TIFF. Although I missed the screening of Tabu, a film I have been dying to see since I first saw the trailer for it, the interview with Emily Blunt for Looper was incredible.

The first day of the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival has arrived, and as the stars descend on Toronto–while the films begin to unspool and the events kick into full swing–the red carpet premier for director Rian Johnson’s film Looper brought fans to Roy Thomson Hall to catch a glimpse of the filmmakers and celebrities.

TIFF ’12: Day one with ‘Looper’ and the opening night party

    by W. Andrew Powell September 6, 2012
    by W. Andrew Powell September 6, 2012

The first day of the TIFF is upon us, and frankly, I’m already tired. For the last week, I’ve already been screening films, interviewing, and trying to keep up with emails planning out what I’ll be doing for the next eleven days.
