Hollywood welcomed some of its favorite A-listers, directors, producers, and assorted filmmakers for the 82nd Academy Awards on Sunday, March 7.

Arriving at the Kodak Theater, some of the presenters, nominees and stars on hand at the event included Mo’Nique, Tina Fey, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, Amanda Seyfried, Gerard Butler, and Christoph Waltz, just to name a few.

Umbrellas were the fashionable accessory of the night as the rain fell on Beverly Hills during the 2010 Golden Globe Awards. Held at the Hilton Hotel’s International Ballroom, the event drew some of the biggest names in entertainment, who all walked the red carpet, while getting more than a little wet in the process.

Celebrities in attendance included Tom Hanks, Zoe Saldana, Emily Blunt, Tobey Maguire, Courteney Cox, Gabourey Sidibe, Neil Patrick Harris, just to name a few.

Gallery: Paramore in Toronto, October 15

Lead singer Hayley Williams and her Paramore bandmates, Josh Farro, Jeremy Davis, Zac Farro, and Taylor York, were in Toronto on October 15 for a packed show at the Kool Haus.

Performing 15 songs from the band’s three studio albums, All We Know Is Falling, Riot!, and their new album, Brand New Eyes, Paramore wrapped up with an encore featuring “Misguided Ghosts,” “Misery Business,” and “Brick By Boring Brick.”

Two-minute preview of ‘2012′ hits TV tonight

Roland Emmerich’s disaster epic 2012 is still over a month away from release, but tonight you can get a two-minute sneak peek of the film, and it’s coming to pretty much every channel on television.

Between 10:50 and 11:00 PM (ET & PT) tonight (October 1), Sony Pictures will be rolling out a massive “roadblock” (meaning the advertisement will be everywhere at once) for 2012 that will appear on almost every network across North America, giving viewers a whole scene from the film to get them interested in the upcoming release. In Canada alone the preview will air on 146 television outlets, in both French and English. The roadblock will also happen around the world later this month.

Following that preview, Sony Pictures is also debuting a full five minutes of footage online, which you should be able to find pretty quickly with a Google search, but they have also confirmed that Sympatico and Fancast will have it, among others.

Otherwise, for those of you in other parts of the country looking to check out the two-minute preview, the segment will air between 9:50 and 10:00 PM (CST & MST), and between 8:50 and 9:00 PM (MT).

TIFF ‘09 recap: Oprah’s ‘Precious’ night

What’s that, more photos you say? Yes, indeed. Interviews and other goodies are coming, but after waiting for over four hours for this event I had to post some teaser photos from Oprah Winfrey’s red carpet for the film Precious by author Sapphire.

The night was jam-packed, and there were a couple of surprises on the red carpet, including the appearance of Mr. Robert DeNiro, but the point of it all is that this film is going to be huge. Massive. Oscar talk already, including for Mariah Carey.

TIFF Gallery: ‘The Men Who Stare At Goats’ press conference

Although everyone kept their cool, it was easy to imagine that a few hearts were aflutter on Friday, September 11 when George Clooney and Ewan McGregor arrived at the Toronto International Film Festival press conference for their new film, The Men Who Stare at Goats.

Joining the duo on the stage were actor Jeff Bridges, director Grant Heslov, author Jon Ronson, and screenplay writer Peter Straughan, but to be honest, the focus was clearly on Clooney, thanks at least in part to numerous questions directed at the star.

The satirical comedy is set to be released on November 6, 2009, and follows Clooney and McGregor’s characters as they investigate the U.S. military’s plans to deploy soldiers with paranormal abilities.

Writer Diablo Cody, director Karyn Kusama, and star Megan Fox helped kick off the Midnight Madness programme at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival on Thursday, September 10 with the gala red carpet for their horror film, Jennifer’s Body.

Select members of the cast, including Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Simmons, Josh Emerson, Valerie Tian, and Adam Brody were on hand as well, in addition to producer Jason Reitman and his father, Ivan Reitman.

On Thursday, September 10 director Jon Amiel’s film Creation, about the life of Charles Darwin, opened the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival with a gala red carpet event at Roy Thomson Hall. On hand to walk the carpet were stars Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany, screenwriter John Colle, not to mention the great-great-grandson of Darwin, Randal Keynes.

Quentin Tarantino on the red carpet for ‘Inglourious Basterds’

Quentin Tarantino in Toronto

Director Quentin Tarantino was in Toronto yesterday to promote his latest film, the war drama Inglourious Basterds, which screened at the Scotiabank Theatre.

Tarantino chatted with the press, met with fans, signed autographs, and posed with an action figure of himself, before heading into the theatre to introduce the film.

Also on hand was actor Eli Roth, who plays one of the Jewish-American soldiers sent into the war to kill and spread fear among the Nazi troops. Brad Pitt stars in the film as the leader of the soldiers, while Christoph Waltz plays the role of Standartenführer Hans Landa, the Nazi leader known as “The Jew Hunter”. The film opens in theatres on Friday, August 21.

The 2009 MuchMusic Video Awards are barely over, but The GATE wanted to give you a little keepsake to remember some of your favorite moments from this year’s show.

We will have lots more of our own photos from the event tomorrow, but to keep you amused here are three photos courtesy of MuchMusic.

Included in the mini gallery are photos of Lady Gaga, the Jonas Brothers, and Nickelback.

For those keeping score at home, Nickelback also took home the most awards with a total of three trophies, and The Midway State took home two awards (UR Fave: Favourite New Artist and VideoFACT Best Independent Video).
