In this special Holiday-themed edition of The GATE’s Media Box podcast, and to celebrate the return of the podcast, we’re switching gears for an all-music format with five holiday songs to get you in the spirit of the season. Featuring Kate Nash, Lindi Ortega, Sleepy Sun, Sebastien & Katie, and Meiko.
Lindi Ortega
The last five years have been a big deal for former Toronto-native Lindi Ortega. In that time the soulful singer has toured Canada, the United States, and parts of Europe–where she’s currently on tour–she’s been nominated for two Juno Awards, long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize, and recently she was nominated for the Indie Awards, and the list goes on and on.
Over all the years that I’ve been running The GATE, I’ve had the good fortune of meeting a number of very talented musicians, and one of my early favorites was Toronto’s own Lindi Ortega.
Last night was a fantastic dip into the waters of this year’s Canadian Music Fest, but it was pretty quick for me because of a few prior commitments.
To start the night I was actually at a film screening for my weekly review column, but once I was out I headed to the Rivoli to wait for Lindi Ortega to hit the stage.
This is kind of a crazy week for me, and I love it.
Later this week I’m screening Mars Needs Moms, and Battle: Los Angeles, both of which I’m moderately excited to see.
I have been a fan of Miss Lindi Ortega pretty much since I started The GATE, so I had to post this teaser for her new EP Drifter, which is out now, followed by a full album that’s coming this fall.
