    Review: First Man

by Andrew Parker October 11, 2018
by Andrew Parker October 11, 2018

A personal, terrestrial, and sometimes even bracingly experimental look at the historical race to reach the moon, Damien Chazelle’s First Man is a technically dazzling and dramatically satisfying work from one of this generation’s finest filmmakers.

TIFF ’11 Blog: Saturday stars, music, and heroes

    by W. Andrew Powell September 12, 2011

Saturday was one of the better days for me at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and that’s really the way it usually goes because, for whatever reason, things tend to be front-loaded at TIFF. The first three or maybe even four days pack in more activity than most of the other days combined. While that means I often had to choose between a number of stars in different places, thanks to a decently organized schedule I ended up doing interviews, red carpets, and the chance to be in the presence of the great Stan Lee.

    by W. Andrew Powell October 30, 2007
    by W. Andrew Powell October 30, 2007

During the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival I heard a lot of early buzz about a film called Lars and the Real Girl that starred Canada’s own Ryan Gosling as an oddball guy who falls in love with… a sex doll.
