Toronto actress Katheryn Winnick–best known for her roles on Bones and A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III–recently returned to her home town to talk about her part in History’s new series, Vikings, where she stars as the tough-as-nails shield maiden, Lagertha Lothbrok.

During the interview, Winnick talked about how she adjusted to the impressive set, the physically demanding role, what she learned about the history of the Vikings, and the work that creator and executive producer Michael Hirst put into making the new series. She also talked about how she was one of the few women on set, finding her place among all the male actors, the role women played in Viking culture, and the parallels between then and now.

Watch the interview below, and for more on Vikings, you can also watch the interview with co-star Jessalyn Gilsig.

The season finale of Vikings airs on History this Sunday, April 28 at 10:00 PM, and watch a marathon of the entire season starting at 2:00 PM on Sunday, which leads into the finale.
