Kate Hewlett discusses CBC’s ‘Still Life: A Three Pines Mystery’

Kate Hewlett may not have much free time, but that seems to suit the busy actress and writer, who stars in the two-hour crime mystery Still Life: A Three Pines Mystery, just fine.

Based on the novel by Canadian author Louise Penny, Still Life delves into a small town where everything seems picturesque on the surface, but after one of the locals is murdered, it becomes clear that not everything is picture perfect, as long-held resentments come to light.

Hewlett stars in the film as Clara Morrow, the sister of the victim, alongside Nathaniel Parker as Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, Anthony Lemke as Inspector Jean-Guy Beauvoir, and Gabriel Hogan as Peter Morrow.

Speaking to the actress at the CBC studio in Toronto this week, Hewlett chatted about playing the pivotal character, while also revealing just how busy she has been acting (in just the last two years she has appeared on The L.A. Complex, Republic of Doyle, Degrassi: The Next Generation, and Murdoch Mysteries), and writing. Among her projects right now, Hewlett talked a little about the fact that she is currently working on the comedy series Seed, which was picked up by the CW in the U.S. just this week.

During the interview, Hewlett chatted with me about auditioning for Still Life–which did not go exactly as planned–her inspiration for the character, all of the other projects she’s working on right now, and whether she would consider directing in the future. Watch the interview to hear what the charming, down-to-Earth actress has to say about her latest role, and then catch Still Life: A Three Pines Mystery on CBC this Sunday, September 15 at 8:00 PM (ET/8:30 NT).
