A Diamond for Bell?

HTC Touch DiamondFor the last two weeks I’ve tried to be patient, but as a great cartoon character once said, “I’ve had all I can take and I can’t takes no more…”

So, tell me people of Bell, where is the HTC Touch Diamond? Telus has had the phone since August 14, but there hasn’t been a single word from Bell about selling this über cool phone. Are they just being coy about it? Slow? Or what’s the deal?

I’ve been wondering if Bell is just trying to push the Samsung Instinct before they start on another phone, but frankly I’m about ready to switch over to Telus just so I can buy the Diamond. (I still love the look of the Instinct, but from all the features I know about, the Diamond is the way to go.)

What surprises me the most though is that I’m starting to drool every time Apple’s iPhone ad comes on TV. I have no urge to switch to Rogers, I think the phone is completely overpriced, and I wouldn’t even use it as a music player (I’ve got my Zune, thanks), but the other features look pretty sweet.

I guess this means I won’t have a new phone for this year’s Toronto film fest, but I suppose since I’ve been phone shopping for over a year, what’s another month or two?

  1. Andrew you and I have discussed this at some length. I am a very proud owner of the Diamond and absolutely adore everything about it. I have friends with both the Instinct and the iPhone and side by side the features and performance on the Diamond wins hands down.
The music player on the diamond is very reminiscent of the iPhone and the GPS, instant weather updates and 3.2 megapixel camera are wonderful side benefits. Also the size of the phone is much smaller than both of the other two.
Be patient and try to wait it out, although my industry insiders say HTC is trying to keep this phone pretty exclusive. Telus was the first in NA to get it and dang that makes me so happy, but I know here in Alberta there are definitely supply shortages of the phone.
Telus also put it’s own spin on the phone, losing the shiny diamond back for a more practical soft touch back among the most noteable.

  2. I have been fantasizing about that phone for months and check all the sites which could have any info about it being released by Bell every day. I have been told by a few Bell store clerks that it’s going to be in their stores around the end of September or beginning of October. The only thing I am worried about is if they will allow their unlimited web access for 10$ on it. I have nightmares about it!

  3. I actually would already own the Diamond if the Telus store on Bloor Street in Yorkville had any stock. I checked in there three times during the film festival and all I got was “any day now.” So I guess Telus lost a sale, because I see no reason to switch at this point. Bell could have the phone for Q4 (sales associates I’ve talked to have told me it was supposed to be in store already, but it’s delayed), but after seeing the iPhone in action during the festival, I’m practically converted. Amazing device for email and messages.

But now that the festival is over I can wait a bit longer… so we’ll see what happens.

  4. I have been experiencing the same problem all everyone here. Day after day, i check to see any updates and i get NADA. How does bell expect to keep customers when all of the other moble companies offer such cool phones including the phone they push so much advertising on (instinct).

Anyways, from all the rumors, it seems that the diamond is going to come by the end of SEPT and the touch pro in October. I am going to get the touch pro, i think the screen is too small for texting.

There is another new HTC phone called the HTC touch HD. Its exactly the same as the diamond, with the exeception that the screen is larger (one of my drawbacks of the diamond). It is such a beautiful phone, im thicking about waiting for it, but, i have no idea when it will come to canada, maybe mid-2009

  5. Just a heads up for anyone following this. No announcements from Bell yet on a date, but a flyer that was in Saturday’s Toronto Star says the HTC Touch Diamond is “coming soon” and will of course retail for $149.95 under a three-year term.
