‘The Right Way’ at Camera Bar, Toronto

by W. Andrew Powell

Last week I had an awesome interview with Karyn Dwyer and I had all these plans to have the story up this week to promote her film, The Right Way, that’s screening tonight and tomorrow at Camera Bar here in Toronto. Of course, as you can guess by this note, the story still isn’t online, but I had to write a little something to make sure folks checked out the event.

Here’s the official blurb on the film:

The Right Way, directed by then 21-year-old Mark Penney, features an all-Canadian cast of the most exciting rising stars, including Karyn Dwyer (Better than Chocolate, Superstar), Jefferson Brown (Cake, Slings & Arrows) and Sarain Boylan (Bon Cop, Bad Cop, Bleacher Bums) with tour-de-force supporting performances by Gloria Slade (Traders) and James McGowan (The Perfect Man).

Amy (Dwyer) and David (Brown) are two underachievers from suburbia. Neglected by their abusive parents, and uninspired by their dreary lives, meeting each other seemed to be just what they were looking for. But when Amy gets pregnant, the young couple are forced to decide: should they do things the wrong way or the right way? Fast-paced and emotionally charged, The Right Way tells the story of young dreams gone sour.

This is also a special limited release with proceeds being donated to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in honour of the director’s cousin.

The Right Way screens tonight and tomorrow, June 22 and 23 at 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM at Camera Bar, 1028 Queen St. West.
