Toronto’s North By Northeast festival–better known as NXNE–starts today with music, movies, comedians, and art, not to mention parties, and an industry conference. It’s a big festival, and this year the event celebrates 19 years, not to mention 1000 bands, 30 films, 65 conference sessions, 200 comedians, and 35 artists.
To give you a little guidance this week, here’s NXNE’s list of events you can find across the city today. Stay tuned each day for updates throughout the festival, not to mention The GATE’s coverage from concerts and events. NXNE’s music programming kicks off on Wednesday, June 12, while the film programming starts on Thursday, June 13.

Johannes Zits “Looking for Guides to an Alternative” | 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
At the corner of King Street and Bay Street
“Looking For Guides To An Alternative” is a performance piece in which Zits will be weaving a long strip of cloth from a business suit–that he will be wearing–over the course of several days in the Financial District.
Elastic Planets Live “Instant Places” | 8:00 PM
NAISA Art (601 Christie Street, #252)
This performance takes place inside the Elastic Planets multichannel sound field and deals with source materials and processes such as altered guitars, spoken words, and analog video.
