Screen capture of the leaked edition of ‘Deathly Hallows’
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows enjoyed the security of a multi-million dollar plan that saw the book shipped and secured secretly at stores across across Canada, the United States, and Britain… and yet someone has still managed to leak a copy online. As of today there can be no doubt that an individual has already gotten their hands on a copy of the book, photographed it in its entirety, and made it available as a PDF through bit-torrent streams.
The GATE has been able to download and examine pages of the yet to be released novel, which appears blurry, but legible. We’re of course not going to give anything we saw away, but there can be no doubt this is the real thing. Early reports from U.S. publisher Scholastic has the company trying to deny the claims, despite evidence and reports from numerous news sites.
Set for release this Saturday, July 21, Deathly Hallows is the final book in J.K. Rowling‘s Harry Potter series, but even this leak is unlikely to affect the final sales of the book. Amazon.ca has already had the book for sale by pre-order since February 1, and it’s been number one on their book sales chart since then. The online retailer also claims to have sold more copies of this book in the first 30 hours of pre-sales than they sold of book six in the first 30 days of pre-orders.
Judging by all the hype and exposure, Deathly Hallows will easily be the year’s biggest book, and could even eclipse some of the all-time best sellers. No early leak is likely to change that.
If you want to be one of the first people to own a copy of an actual book and you live in Toronto there are a number of events going on to help celebrate the release. Indigo Books at Bay & Bloor will be closing down part of Bay Street for Midnight Magic, an event that will recreate Diagon Alley for all the fans and kids alike with music, games, a magic show and more. Another event, Project Potter, takes over Casa Loma on Friday night for a dinner and dance – registration for that event ends tomorrow at noon though.
