During what is sure to be a huge blockbuster summer, complete with wizards, transforming robots, and raving mutants, Paramount is ramping up promotion for what could be one of their biggest films this year, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
Paramount released six character posters for the film today, ahead of the teaser trailer which debuts during the Superbowl on Sunday, February 1.
Based on Hasbro’s action figures, not to mention the Marvel comic book series, and the popular cartoon, the film was directed by Stephen Sommers, and tells the story of an elite American fighting force taking on the ultimate terrorist group known as Cobra.
According to early reports, the film is set ten years from now with the introduction of two new G.I. Joe recruits, Channing Tatum as Duke and Marlon Wayans as Ripcord.
The film also stars Dennis Quaid as General Hawk, Sienna Miller as The Baroness, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander, Christopher Eccleston as Destro, Ray Park as Snake Eyes, and Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow.
Written by Stuart Beattie, who also wrote the Gears of War screenplay for the upcoming film, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra arrives in theatres on August 7, and we can only hope the theme music is a bit better than the original.
