Drake tops 2011 Juno nominations, set to host live telecast

On Tuesday, February 1, Canadaian musicians were in the spotlight once again as the list of nominees were revealed for the 2011 Juno Awards, which will celebrate their 40th anniversary by bringing the festivities back to Toronto for the first time in eleven years.

Topping the list of nominees, with six nods, Drake will be competing for best album, artist, songwriter, single, rap recording, and the fan choice award. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and CTV also revealed that Drake will be also be taking the stage to host the televised event which takes place Sunday, March 27 at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre.

Other multiple-nominees included Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Johnny Reid, and of course, the young pop sensation, Justin Bieber. CARAS and CTV also revealed some of the performers who will take the stage during this year’s Juno Awards, including Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Down With Webster, Hedley and Johnny Reid, and more performers will be announced in the weeks to come.

Juno Week festivities run from March 21 to 27, and tickets for the 2011 Juno Awards go on sale this Saturday, February 5, with CTV airing the event live on Sunday, March 27. Tickets start $62.25 and go up to $213.75 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster.

Leading up to the Juno Awards, other events scheduled during Juno Week include the Juno Cup, Juno Fest, Juno Fan Fare, the Songwriters’ Circle, and the invitation-only Gala Dinner & Awards.
