The Green Lantern, for most of you who don’t know, is a crime fighter with a power ring that can conjure up anything the hero needs to kick bad guy butt. In the latter part of the series the Green Lantern was also part of an intergalactic team of heroes protecting the universe from trouble.
Reynolds is of course no stranger to comic book movies, appearing as Deadpool in the recent Wolverine movie, and as Hannibal in Blade: Trinity. It might be said that Reynolds was also the best part of either film, thanks to his unique comic timing.
Casino Royale director Martin Campbell is set to helm the film.
Lost Star Quitting TV: The sixth and final season of J.J. Abrams’ strange sci-fi drama Lost may still be half a year away, but according to Matthew Fox, it’s going to spell the end of his television career.
While I’ve had no luck sourcing where the quote came from, numerous websites have run stories that suggest the star feels he needs a break from TV’s hectic scheduling.
“I am not going to do television again,” Fox is quoted as saying. “That is not because I think film is better than television. Not at all, in some respects some of the best story telling is happening on television.”
“I have done two TV shows – Lost and Party of Five – that have each run for six years,” Fox continued. “When you add it all up it is in the vicinity of 300 hours of television… I am 42 and a father of two children and I don’t want to miss them growing up. I don’t want to find myself 10 years from now feeling like I was an absentee father because I was so focused on my career.”
Fox plays Jack Shephard in the convoluted series, which is due back on TV next January.
Idol Music: In American Idol singing news, two of the show’s recent contestants, and the season’s winner, are planning releases of their first albums.
According to MSNBC, Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, and Jason Castro are all expected to drop their debut albums over the coming months leading into the hot holiday shopping season.
Winner Kris Allen has the biggest shoes to fill, as he is expected to compete against previous Idol winners Kelly Clarkson or David Cook, but it’s hard to say how he will perform.
Meanwhile, the most hotly anticipated album might be Lambert’s, since he is by far the most popular singer from the last season. Songs he recorded prior to Idol are already on their way to stores, under the title On With the Show, while Lambert is working on a new album with numerous talents, including producers RedOne and Ryan Tedder.
Hermione’s Skivvies: Lastly, the nets are abuzz with the (non) news that Harry Potter actress Emma Watson had a little problem with her dress at the recent Half-Blood Prince premier in England.
Apparently a gust of wind tousled her skirt, revealing her “skivvies” for the throngs of photographers.
As Watson said to David Letterman on his show last week, “At least I’m wearing underwear.” (Which is more than we can say for most young starlets these days.)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opens in theatres this Wednesday, July 15.
