Rated: 7/10

If you picture yourself in a dimly lit bar, filled with friendly people in a small town, Buffalo Tom playing songs from their new album, Three Easy Pieces would fit perfectly playing on stage.

Getting their start in the late 80’s, Buffalo Tom is no stranger to the music scene. The five-year gap between Three Easy Pieces and Besides allowed for singer/guitarist Bill Janovitz and singer/bassist Chris Colbourn to pursue other musical interests. Long time fans don’t need to worry however, this album echoes their earlier music without any big surprises despite the lengthy break.

With slower songs like “Thrown” it’s impossible not to swoon along with Janovitz as he insists he’s a lucky man in terms of the life he leads, with mentions of how quickly time passes by. “You’ll Never Catch Him” tells a story of a spirit, you can only catch “if you believe”. The pace is picked up with upbeat songs you can sing along with like, “Bottom of the Rain” and “Good Girl” (which is more about a sweet girl’s naughty side). A vibrant mix of soft rock combined with a few harder beats is delivered effortlessly for Buffalo Tom on this album.

The songs are ideal for when you’re looking for some light music to relax to. Whether it’s a night of old friends and stories or lying on an open green field with the sun in your eyes, each song expels passion to feed your soft rock or sweet side.
