Gallery: The Novaks and The Waking Eyes at CMW

by W. Andrew Powell

On Thursday, March 12, Newfoundland’s The Novaks, and Winnipeg’s The Waking Eyes played Lee’s Palace in Toronto for the 2009 Canadian Musicfest, and The GATE was there to snap a few photos.

The Novaks, with their classic brand of college rock anthems, played a fantastic set, highlighted by lead singer Mick Davis’ drawling vocals and incredible guitar playing. Davis also made particular mention that the bands new album will be coming out very soon.

Following The Novaks, The Waking Eyes took to the stage, putting on a powerhouse show with singers Rusty Matyas and Matt Peters taking turns between keyboards and guitars. The stunning performance, by one of Canada’s best live acts, made for a fantastic night of music during the annual festival.
