European Food & Drink culture, pairing with European Films!

The Charming Taste of Europe” is an EU-funded promotional campaign that introduces the United States and Canada to exquisite European products, celebrating Europe’s charm, culture, history, art, heritage, and unique flavours.

Through its initiatives, the campaign aims to raise awareness of the quality and standards of select European wines and fresh fruits with a variety of promotional activities. As part of these efforts, “The Charming Taste of Europe” returns as a Major Sponsor of the European Film Festival (EUFF) in Canada, which runs through November and December with both in-person (14-28 Nov.) and online (1-17 Dec.) screenings.

The EUFF brings together the finest films from the European Union through a collaboration of 27 Consulates and Cultural Institutes. It presents a captivating lineup of diverse, imaginative, and thought-provoking films. Several guest filmmakers from the EU will travel to Canada to introduce and discuss their films in person with Canadian audiences.

In keeping with its tradition, the festival highlights contemporary voices from emerging filmmakers alongside recent works by established directors. The 2024 program includes a variety of genres, such as comedies, historical dramas, love stories, documentaries and dramas.

The 2024 European Union Film Festival (EUFF) offers online screenings of select films, accessible across Canada. Although not all films from the festival lineup will be available, a significant number of films can be viewed online, allowing audiences nationwide to enjoy some of the finest in contemporary European cinema. This digital extension provides an opportunity for those who enjoy a film in-person to recommend it to friends across Canada.

Presented in partnership with the Canadian Film Institute in Ottawa and the European Union Film Festival in Toronto, along with the member states of the European Union and the Delegation of the European Union to Canada, the EUFF features in-theatre offerings from all 27 EU members.

The year 2024 marks the 20th EUFF and the third hybrid edition at Toronto’s Spadina Theatre, featuring an incredible lineup of films carefully selected by the countries themselves. These films showcase the most outstanding cinema from the Union, with the inclusion of one film as a fundraiser in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, a tradition that began last year.

In-person or online, our goals have remained the same:

  • Reflect the excellence and innovation of European independent cinema
  • Give award-winning films their Canadian premieres
  • Give voice to relevant European filmmakers in Canada
  • Foster collaboration and engage in cultural dialogues between Canadian and EU communities
  • Promote diversity

“The Charming Taste of Europe” will host a wine tasting event at Spadina Theatre on November 20th from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m., just before the screening of the Italian film “A Hundred Sundays”. As a Major Sponsor, the campaign will receive recognition in the festival’s promotional materials and a dedicated mention on social media. Through its involvement in the EUFF, the campaign reinforces its commitment to supporting European initiatives in Canada, connecting with key target audiences in the Canadian market.

“The Charming Taste of Europe” project is promoted by the Consortium for the Protection of Wines of Abruzzo (Italy), the Association of Imathias’s Agricultural Cooperatives (Greece), and the Union of Sweet Bordeaux Wines (France). These European agricultural products, famous around the world for their outstanding characteristics, are promoted with initiatives and events dedicated to consumers, journalists and professionals. Through the superb high quality Italian wines, the juicy kiwis from Greece, and the melodious French golden wines produced with the artistry of agricultural traditions, the campaign awakens senses and highlights a new culinary consciousness by connecting food, cultures, and territories and will undoubtedly bring European charm into the lives of many.
