Gail Daughtry And The Celebrity Sex Pass review | Hollywood or bust

by W. Andrew Powell

Gail Daughtry And The Celebrity Sex Pass is a throwback to a better time. The hilarious slapstick comedy is exactly what’s been missing from cinemas.

Because–honestly–where have all the fun, ridiculous comedies gone? Blockbuster cinema has taken over, so it’s incredibly refreshing that this film not only was made, and made well, but gets a shot in theatres.

From the premise to the cameos, the film is full of big, goofy jokes, silly action, and for all of that, it’s a lot of fun.

Zoey Deutch stars as Gail Daughtry, an average, small town hairdresser. When her husband-to-be has sex with the one and only Jennifer Aniston–his celebrity sex pass–Gail decides that she has to go hunt down Jon Hamm in Hollywood. Yes, she wants to have sex with him to make it all even before the wedding.

The film is a mischievous take on The Wizard of Oz, complete with Hamm as the wizard. There are lots of cameos, and the core cast is fantastic. That cast includes John Slattery as himself, Ben Wang as Caleb, Miles Gutierrez-Riley as Otto, and even co-writer Ken Marino as Vincent. Plus watch for all the fun cameos, including Weird Al Yankovic with a sub-machine gun.

Gail Daughtry And The Celebrity Sex Pass is a blast, and while it’s not perfect, it’s a fun watch. It’s big on laughs, quick jokes, and it’s absolutely quotable, too. The film is out now in theatres.

Director David Wain clearly had a blast making this film.

Watch my review above for more about why I enjoyed the film and the cast.

Synopsis: Small town hairdresser Gail Daughtry is engaged to her devoted high school sweetheart, Tom. Her life takes a turn when a trip to a book signing leads to Tom meeting–and sleeping–with his โ€œcelebrity passโ€. Reeling from the betrayal, Gail impulsively joins her friend Otto on a trip to Los Angeles, where a psychic convinces Gail that the only way to save her marriage is to โ€œeven the scalesโ€ with her own celebrity pass: Jon Hamm. Thus begins an epic journey through Tinseltown as Gail and Otto join forces with a talent agency assistant, a paparazzo, and actor John Slattery, all in the search for Hamm. Along the way, they collide with celebrities and are hunted by a group of Italian assassins as they get ever closer to finding the elusive star.
