As Joe historically said, “I am Canadian!” To this day, it’s one of the best Canadian ads ever, and these days it feels like a rallying cry for a movement.
“I believe in peace keeping,” he says, “not policing. Diversity, not assimilation,” and at the heart of the ad, it’s like standing up for all the great and unique things about being Canadian.
For me, the moral of the story is our pride, and in the face of challenging times for our country, I thought it was worth talking about travel.
I’m very proud that I’ve had the chance to write a lot of travel stories about exploring Canada. Travel in Canada is vital, especially this year, and while that’s my focus, as a business I have to also honour some obligations to a few partners as well. Often when I go on a trip for travel coverage, I’ll end up sharing that coverage in the next travel season, and right now I have a few stories to share about destinations in the U.S.
With the threat of tariffs from the U.S. and the general state of affairs in the United States, I’ll be honest that these stories feel poorly timed as a Canadian. I think they’re great destinations and experiences, but I also think Canada needs to stand up for ourselves and keep those travel dollars at home.
As an independent publisher and a small business, I can’t abandon obligations that I have though, even in the face of a trade dispute. So I hope you will understand why I will still be publishing coverage about the U.S.
I also look forward to the point when it will make sense to travel to the U.S. again, and that’s when I hope my upcoming articles will be helpful.
During these challenges for our country, I’m going to be very pro-Canada, because the country needs our support. And Canada is one of the most beautiful places in the world, that we don’t explore enough, so it’s a very easy job to promote this incredible, unique, diverse, and gorgeous country.
Please watch for my Canadian travel pieces coming up, read some old ones, and your support for any of them would be greatly appreciated. For video, take a look at my Canadian travel playlist on YouTube.
