Hoppers Review | Pixar’s wildest comedy

by W. Andrew Powell

Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers is a wild adventure. The film is a funny and fun environmental story, and it’s also very different from the stories that we’ve seen from the studios before.

Hoppers stars Piper Curda as Mabel, Bobby Moynihan as King George, and Jon Hamm as Mayor Jerry in the story of a young woman fighting to save her favourite pond from being destroyed by construction.

Mabel stumbles on a strange solution to her problem: a robotic beaver that allows her to talk to the animals of the forest, and try to bring them back to her pond before it’s too late. She just has to convince them, and overcome a few challenges, to save the day.

With a unique charm, a heartfelt tone, and a fresh style that’s hard to compare against other Pixar films, Hoppers is a blast on the big screen. It’s a fun family adventure, and the animation is lively and modern.

The story has a wit and a irreverence that’s refreshing and honest, too, but most of all, the story underlines an eco-conscious narrative that’s about reconnecting with nature, and the way nature can also help us all escape the stress of the modern world.
