What a difference two decades makes. For more than 20 years now, The GATE has been covering Canadian entertainment, lifestyle, tech, and travel. Now I’m ready to open a new chapter in our story, starting with a fresh look, and a new logo.
The GATE started out as a zine with a few articles once a month, but it didn’t take long before I was covering film festivals, events, and interviewing people I never imagined that I would have the chance to sit down beside.
Those first few years I was taking photos on film, shooting video on tapes, and it would take me hours of work or processing to get anything online.
Today, The GATE has over 30,000 social media followers, nearly 12 million video views on YouTube alone, and I’ve interviewed hundreds of actors, filmmakers, musicians, artists, and professionals.
At the heart of what we do, The GATE is focused on Canada and Canadian stories, and that’s been my dream all along. I’ve always felt very lucky to be able to share these stories from incredible artists that reach around the world.
The next step for The GATE is to grow so we can hire more writers and cover more stories. To get there, and to start this next chapter in our story, I’m introducing memberships on The GATE.
With the new look and memberships, many things will still stay the same. Interviews and many other stories will continue to be completely free. Subscriptions will include bonus content, from photos and video clips, to audio and stories from The GATE’s 20+ year archives, with options for monthly or very affordable annual rates, plus an option for a lifetime membership that comes with a special bonus welcome package.
We’re also launching membership options for The GATE’s YouTube channel, to offer badges and emojis and a range of other benefits for fans of our video interviews.
Most importantly though, memberships will support more Canadian writers and journalists, and allow me to eventually hire full-time staff, and add more faces and diversity to our interviews.
