Listen: Emily James’ “Foreign Land”

by W. Andrew Powell
Emily James

Silky and sweet, Emily James’ single “Foreign Land” is a modern pop ballad from an up-and-coming singer with a passionate style.

The 19-year-old singer and songwriter wrote and produced the single in her Los Angeles bedroom, and follows her single “Dancing with a Thief,” that earned a spot on two of Spotify’s New Music Friday playlists.

James started writing music when she was ten, and has a range of influences, from pop, and rock, to blues, and folk. “My songs don’t always fit into one style of music,” she said. “I write what truly inspires me from my feelings, emotions and experiences, and I try not to let any specific genre box me in.”

Watch James perform a stripped-down, acoustic version of “Foreign Land” on YouTube, and then follow her on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
