Opus Orange’s “Take Another Step”

by W. Andrew Powell
Opus Orange

Opus Orange’s “Take Another Step” is dreamy, indie pop that stuck with me from the first time I heard it. It’s beautifully infectious.

The melody is bright and layered, and the vocals are just a bit wispy. It feels like stepping into a dream, or maybe, more appropriately, someone thoughts.

As the artist says, the song is about “the impossibility of true empathy” but it’s also about the fact that we still have to try.

Paul Bessenbacher is the LA artist behind Opus Orange. His style favours natural rhythms, noisy electric guitar, buzzy synths, and acoustic guitar, with infectious pop melodies. His work has appeared in numerous TV and film projects, including documentaries like Mile, Mile & a Half, and TV shows Broad City, Younger, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Detour.

“Take Another Step” is from Opus Orange’s new album, Miles From Nowhere.
