Roman Tragedy’s “Bittersweet”

by W. Andrew Powell
Roman Tragedy

“Bittersweet” by Roman Tragedy is one of the most addictive indie pop songs I’ve heard so far this year. The song has a fantastic beat, with soaring harmonies, and guitar riffs for days.

And my favourite part is that Roman Tragedy call themselves a “Female Fronted Boy Band From Western Sydney,” reminding me a bit of bands like Toronto’s The Beaches.

The duo came together in 2018 when lead singer Maz met guitarist Josie in a Japanese bookstore, and since then they’ve been perfecting their “neo-poptimist” style.

“Bittersweet” was produced by Chris Blancato (Northlane, Hellions, Bare Bones) and the band says they take inspiration from “the likes of Jack Antonoff’s Bleachers and early Panic! At the Disco”.
