Strangers by The Royal Foundry

The Royal Foundry

Canadian alt-pop rockers The Royal Foundry released their new EP, Strangers, and listening to it feels like a winter retreat, especially starting off with the track “You Make It Easy”. The striking song moves from somber to sweet, with a crescendo just before the end leading perfectly into the rest of the clever EP.

The Royal Foundry are husband and wife duo Jared Salte and Beth Schumacher, and on tour, they also feature artists Robbie Szabo and Jeremy Dehek. The new EP focuses on Jared’s earthy vocals, while Beth’s airy vocals weave in and out, particularly on the choruses.

“Any Other Way” is a triumphant, indie-pop anthem–rich and mesmerizing with a funky distortion on the backing vocals that sounds incredibly unique.

“Heaven Knows I Try” dips into slow, sweet honey, with a duet that’s layered so closely together, their voices sound like one.

And finally, with “Strangers,” the band closes out the EP with what I imagine as a hint of spring, with Beth’s vocals taking the lead on most of the chorus. It’s a wonderful, sometimes even haunting EP, and I can’t wait to hear what comes next from the band.

In 2020, The Royal Foundry hit big on TikTok with their single “okay?”, earning more than 4 million views for the upbeat pop track in just a few weeks with dozens of users sharing the track with their videos.
