Nominations for the 2009 MuchMusic Video Awards are in, and love them or not, Nickelback topped the list with five nods, tied with R&B singer Danny Fernandes.

Following the band’s success at this year’s Juno Awards in Vancouver, the MMVA nominations once again spotlight just how huge Nickleback have become in Canada and worldwide.

Coming in a close second with four nominations was Marianas Trench, followed by Bedouin Soundclash, Classified, k-os, Theory Of A Deadman, and The Midway State, who all received three nods.

This year’s show will be hosted by teenage heartbreakers the Jonas Brothers, as hordes of screaming fans, A-list bands and pop stars descend on MuchMusic headquarters at the corner in downtown Toronto.

Aside from the Jonas Brothers, double-nominee Lady Gaga is the only other performer who has been announced so far.

Fans can start voting now at muchmusic.com/mmva for the three UR Fave fan choice categories, including Video of the Year, International Video of the Year, and New Artist Of The Year.

Focusing on Canadian musicians and music videos, the MMVAs air live on Sunday, June 21 at 9:00 PM (ET). The red carpet festivities begin at 8:00 PM (ET). Stay tuned to The GATE for more coverage of this year’s show.
