There is certainly no shortage of desserts in Vancouver, but how oh how do you choose one? We’ve narrowed down your endless options and rounded up our top five picks in the city.

Cream Puffs from BETA5 Chocolates

BETA5 Chocolates cream puff

BETA5 started on its mission of crafting memorable experiences through an artful approach to the design and creation of modern pastries and chocolates in 2011, and boy do they deliver on that through their highly-rated, beloved cream puffs. BETA5 takes pride in this fresh, flavourful, smooth dessert with its light, creamy, delectable filling. And with flavors like Vietnamese coffee, mango milk tea, vanilla, chocolate variations, and piña colada, there really is something for every palate.

Get it: 413 Industrial Avenue, Vancouver

Or, order ahead and build your own 1, 3 or 6-pack online. Local delivery in the Vancouver and Lower Mainland area is available on select days for orders over $35 before tax. You simply enter your postal code at checkout, and you’ll see your delivery date options in the calendar. Shipping costs an introductory rate of $5 or free delivery on orders over $75.

Just remember, these mouth-watering cream puffs must be kept refrigerated and are best eaten same-day.

Crack from purebread

purebread, a family bakery established in Whistler with three Vancouver locations, has one simple mission: to bake delicious bread, savouries, cakes & treats that bring a smile to peoples’ faces. Well, if you’re not smiling and have had a long day, week, hell, even year already, there’s only one solution.

Enter Crack, which is inspired by Crack Pie, created by Christina Tosi, New York City-famed pastry chef and Milk Bar owner (linked to David Chang’s Momofuku). Think rich butter, heavy cream, and brown and light sugars. Purebread’s take on this sweet, addictive finger-licking dessert is in bar form and features a different base and less sugar (make no mistake, though, it’s still very sweet!)

Get it: purebread has 3 Vancouver locations (Kitsilano, Mount Pleasant and Gastown) and 2 Whistler locations (Whistler Village and Function Junction).

You can also order ahead for pickup (48 hours notice required).

Honey Dip donut from Lee’s Donuts

Honey Dip donut from Lee’s Donuts

Lee’s Donuts, the iconic shop in Granville Island’s Public Market, has been going strong with its most popular honey glazed handmade donut, the Honey Dip, since 1979. They do offer many other quality flavours, though, with Jelly Filled being Seth Rogan’s favourite!

Seriously, these donuts are one of the freshest, melt-in-your-mouth treats in the city and worth the long lineups (which Lee’s says are deceiving and should only take about 10-15 minutes anyhow).

Get it: 1689 Johnston Street, Vancouver

You can also get Lee’s delivered via DoorDash or Uber Eats.

Macarons from Thierry

Fancy a little sweet bite to perk your afternoon up? Head on over to Thierry for a seasonal macaron. They have a location downtown and in Mount Pleasant, plus a new Ambleside shop opening this year! It’s pretty tough to go wrong with any of their flavours, which can range from pumpkin caramel, yuzu + grapefruit and maple pecan to brown butter, chocolate pistachio and salted caramel. You can also pick & choose your flavours in a 7 or 12-pack to share with your sugar-craving pals or family members.

Get it: 1059 Alberni Street, Vancouver or 265 E. 10th Avenue, Vancouver

You can also order ahead for pickup or delivery in the Vancouver area with 48 hours’ notice by completing the contact form with your order information on Thierry’s website. Be sure to include your delivery address so they can estimate delivery charges.

Whiskey Hazelnut Ice Cream from Earnest

Earnest Ice Cream

Earnest Ice Cream is a Vancouver gem, serving up insanely delectable, quality ice cream in some of the most unique flavours you might never have heard of. The brand launched in 2012 with the goal of creating ice cream that expresses their passions for flavour and creativity and to run a business that embodies their values.

One of Earnest’s originals and a best-seller to this day, the whiskey hazelnut flavor in particular meets and maybe even exceeds this goal. With its (mostly, when possible) locally-sourced ingredients, including hazelnuts roasted in butter and salt, fresh cream and a Canadian rye whiskey, it’s like a party in your mouth.

Get it: Earnest runs 3 Vancouver locations and a North Vancouver location and sells its products in various retailers and farmers’ markets throughout the Vancouver area. They don’t currently deliver, but you can get Earnest’s products via Spud.ca and Legends Haul grocery delivery.
