Roger Corman’s Death Race 2000 introduced the race car driver known as Frankenstein to the world of cinema all the way back in 1975, but we really didn’t know much about the character, or the history of the Death Race, or at least we didn’t, until now.

New DVD and Blu-ray arriving this week on store shelves include: Buried, starring Ryan Reynolds as a man trying to survive being buried alive; the prequel Death Race 2, starring Luke Goss and Tanit Phoenix; plus a look at Takers, Sugar Sammy Live in Concert, and season one of Dan for Mayor.
Aside from the surprisingly clever story (especially for a direct-to-DVD sequel), and actors Luke Goss, Sean Bean, and Ving Rhames, I can think of one other great reason to check out Death Race 2 later today when it comes out on DVD and Blu-ray: South African model and actress Tanit Phoenix.
Lazy Sunday News is back for 2011 and this week I look at the possible Ghostbusters 3 and Hellboy 3 sequels, those oh-so-lame People’s Choice Awards, a possible Wonder Woman television series that may be coming soon, and a look ahead at Justin Bieber and Glee.
