SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2 review

SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2

For the content creators, we need to talk more about SSD backups, and the SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2 is an excellent, dependable, and most importantly, rugged, solution.

Available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models, the portable SSD is not just fast, and tough, it’s also IP65 water and dust resistant, so you can take it anywhere and know that your data is protected. The carabiner loop makes it easy to clip onto a bag or even your belt, so you know where it is, and it’s so small you can pack it almost anywhere.

At 110.26mm x 57.34mm x 10.22mm and just 77.5 grams, the SSD drive is smaller than most wallets or phones, so even when my camera bag was full, there was room to fit it in too.

Where the SanDisk Extreme PRO SSD has been so helpful, for me and my workflow in particular, is in keeping backups while I’m travelling and at work. When I shoot anything now, I take backups to the SSD, and keep them there until I have the chance to place backups elsewhere.

Additionally, it’s been incredibly helpful to use the SSD in my process for editing videos in Adobe Premiere Pro. Thanks to NVMe solid state performance, the drive features 2000MB/s2 read and write times. That means that I can copy 50 GBs of data between my computer and the SSD in less than 2 minutes using the included USB-C cable.

The design of the drive is also excellent, with a forged aluminum chassis that acts as a heatsink to improve overall speed. On one side of the drive, there’s a nice, premium rubberized material that keeps the drive from moving around on desks and also makes it easy to grip.

For peace of mind, the drive has been tested to withstand drops of up to three metres, and I’ve had it banging around in my bag for weeks and it keeps working perfectly.

Using included software, the SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2 offers 256 bit AES hardware encryption, so you can also lock down your content in case of theft or if you misplace or lose the drive.

Another software trick is that you can backup your phone’s files to the SSD using the SanDisk Memory Zone app, making it easy to save everything, and also keep your phone from getting full.

Finally, SanDisk offers a 5-year limited warranty, in case of defects.

Included in the box is the SSD with both a USB to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C cable, so you can connect it to your computer, tablet, or phone easily.

Pricing starts at $239.99 Canadian for the 1TB model, and it’s currently on sale starting at $179.99. Visit their website for more details on this exceptional drive for professional photographers, videographers, content creators, or anyone who needs fast, top-quality backups anywhere they go.
