Jack Innanen has come full circle, growing up in the Toronto area, moving to New York for his break, and now starring in FX’s comedy series, Adults, that he filmed in Toronto.
“I kept saying I felt like I was on home field advantage,” Innanen said. “A very intimidating setup, [or it] could have been… [but] I was the big man. I puffed my chest out like; ‘This is what Shoppers is. This is what Timmy’s is.'”
Created by Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw, who wrote for The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Adults is a hilarious cringe-worthy comedy about a group of average Gen Zs, struggling with adulthood and relationships, while living in their friend’s childhood home.
Innanen plays Paul Baker–never just, Paul–a calm and disarming, sexually fluid charmer who’s the latest addition to the friend group.
“I love how absolutely just go-with-the-flow chill he is, because I think I take a lot of parts of him, but that part I’m very envious of. He’s just along for the ride and having fun, doing whatever with the group.”
Alongside series stars Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, Amita Rao, and Owen Thiele, these Adults have incredible chemistry, the episodes are fast and funny, and look our for guest appearances by Charlie Cox, Julia Fox, D’Arcy Carden, Grace Kuhlenschmidt, John Reynolds, and Ray Nicholson.
Innanen is a very fashionable guy, and as Paul Baker the wardrobe department still made him jealous of the clothes he got to wear on set.
“They nailed it because there were some things I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s a little out there,’ and then I was like, ‘Oh, I love this guy. I need to be this guy.’ So it’s really–it was aspirational for me.”
