Poorna Jagannathan, Fred Armisen, and Andrew Rannells Talk About the Second Season of Deli Boys

by Andrew Parker

The most unlikely organized crime family in history returns this week in the second season of the beloved comedy Deli Boys.

Now firmly in control of their late father’s secret Philadelphia cocaine empire, business minded Mir (Asif Ali) and laid back Raj Dar (Saagar Shaikh) are starting to enjoy the fruits of their once bumbling labours. Helped along the way by their dad’s former right hand woman, Lucky, played memorably by a returning Poorna Jagannathan, the DarCo boys are still trying to seek revenge on their double crossing associate and trying to find legitimate ways to launder all of the money they’re starting to run out of room for in their tiny convenience store hub.

That’s where veteran actor and SNL alum Fred Armisen comes in, joining the cast as Bob Sugar, a soft spoken, uniquely polite, but undeniably ruthless casino owner who agrees to launder funds for the boys. He also becomes smitten with Lucky, but she’s understandably hesitant to mix business with pleasure.

A major thorn in the sides of Mir, Raj, Lucky, and Bob is awkward, insincere, goody-two-shoes mayoral hopeful Andrew Chadwater, played by character actor and Broadway legend Andrew Rannells, who’s running on a campaign promise to clean all the drugs off the streets of Philadelphia.

We had a chance to speak with Rannells and the duo of Jagannathan and Armisen during the show’s junket last week. We spoke with Rannells about his inspiration for the character of Andrew Chadwater, playing a role that’s as composed as it is unhinged, and joining the cast of a series in its second season and shaking up the show’s dynamics. Separately, we spoke with Armisen and Jagannathan about Poorna returning to a character that has grown stronger, Fred’s desire to avoid cliches with his latest character, and what they appreciate about each other’s talents.

All six episodes of the second season of Deli Boys stream in Canada on Hulu on Disney+ starting Thursday, May 28, 2026.
