The Oscar race got a little bit tighter this past weekend as the Screen Actors Guild announced their favourite performances of 2006 at the 13th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Honouring the best of both film and television, the awards were held at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center, and attended by the hottest names in the business – including early favourites Forest Whitaker and Helen Mirren who walked away with top awards.
Generally seen as foreshadowing for the upcoming Academy Awards, there were no real surprises in terms of winners at this year’s event. Although Little Miss Sunshine, which has already been a critical hit, won the Outstanding Cast award, giving them a possible push going into the Oscar race for Best Picture.
On the television side of things, Greay’s Anatomy took the award for Outstanding Performance in a Drama, while the Americain version of The Office garnered the award for Outstanding Performance in a Comedy.
Film legend Julie Andrews was presented with Screen Actors Guild’s highest honor, the 43rd Annual Life Achievement Award.
