Listen: LCAW’s “Hummingbird”, featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor

This is easily one of my favorite tracks of so faar in 2018, and it’s going to be a hard one to top. LCAW’s “Hummingbird” features the stunning vocals of Sophie Ellis-Bextor, with a fun, fresh beat that will get your hips moving. “Hummingbird” is an addictive new single from LCAW’s debut Meet in the Middle EP, which arrives in March.

“Hummingbird” is bright and just a bit retro, and it’s also refreshing with a style that I haven’t heard in a lot of music that I’ve been sent from a lot of other artists. LCAW and Ellis-Bextor have made a bit of magic together with this track, and I also hope it leads to another collaboration between them down the road.

LCAW is the work of 23-year-old Munich artist Leon Weber, a classically trained musician who has earned more than 60 million plays across Soundcloud and YouTube, and he’s had support from ODESZA, Martin Garrix, Robin Schulz, and Felix Jaehn. LCAW’s hit remixes have included tracks by London Grammar, Parov Stelar, Asaf Avidan, Fritz Kalkbrenner, Marlon Roudette, and ZHU.

LCAW’s debut single “Painted Sky” was a big hit for the artist and producer, hitting the top 50 in German airplay, and his followup singles have reached more than 10 million plays around the world.

“Hummingbird is a very personal track with a more downbeat vibe,” Weber said. “I think this is one of the main reasons Sophie instantly felt connected to it. Her voice has such a unique character and she added a whole other dimension to what I had made before we met. We had the recording session in a small studio in Notting Hill which hosted writing sessions for the likes of Adele, James Blunt and Lana Del Rey and it felt like there was a very special atmosphere.”

Weber also said that “Hummingbird” marked a new style for him in 2018, that will feature “a modern approach to disco and funk infused dance music.”

“It was great to work with Leon who I think is very talented,” Sophie Ellis-Bextor said. “We had a brilliant session and I am so happy with the way ‘Hummingbird’ has turned out. It’s always exciting making new dance music and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”
