Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross recently debuted together in their docu-series, Ashlee + Evan, but they are also all about the music. Today they released their new EP Ashlee + Evan, but I want to talk about their single “Tonic”, a track the duo co-wrote and produced with Earth, Wind & Fire’s Verdine White, plus Austin Brown, and Bryan London.
And, look, I won’t ignore it. Simpson might be infamous still to a lot of people, but “Tonic” is ear-candy at its best. Ross’s vocals are sweet, smooth, and velvety, and the song is seriously groovy with what I can only assume are some of White’s old-school touches. Ashlee and Evan harmonize nicely too, and the whole track is just plain catchy.
The duo have recently released other singles, including “Paris”, “Safe Zone” and “I Do” which all represent the first time that Simpson has released new music in over 10 years.
