The 69th Festival de Cannes is just over a week away, running from May 11 to 22, and leading up to the big, international film festival, Telefilm Canada has put together a cheat sheet for the Canadian talent to watch this year, including directors Xavier Dolan, and Kim Nguyen; producers Nancy Grant, and Allison Black; and actors Tatiana Maslany, and Sophie Nélisse.
The nominations for the 85th Academy Awards were announced on January 10, and it’s looking like a big year for director Steven Spielberg and his film Lincoln, which walked away with 12 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Actor, and Director.
Every summer there are two big press conferences held by Cameron Bailey, Steve Gravestock, Piers Handling and the rest of the TIFF team–the second is always reserved for Canada and all things Canadian being featured at the festival. This press conference was, as usual, held at the grand old Imperial Room at the Royal York Hotel, and the crowd was large and enthusiastic and a rough count estimated that there were no less than twenty TV cameras there covering the event.
