The idea of a RoboCop reboot made me nervous from the very beginning. How was a relatively un-tried director like José Padilha going to rebuild an icon from my childhood? Given the steady stream of film remakes over the last few years–both good and bad–how would this one stand up?

Toronto has played a multitude of cities on film and television, but director Len Wiseman’s dirty, urban remake of Total Recall takes the city to a new level with Colin Farrell as our confused hero, Doug Quaid.
After the success of so many other franchise reboots it was probably inevitable: MGM is going to remake Robocop. You know, big nearly dead guy, metal outfit, “Your move, creep.”
Remakes are pretty common these days, and many of them are formidable films at the box office and sometimes even critical successes as well, but more often than not, they’re messes that should never have been considered. Well, Disney is about to venture into remake territory (again) and I have to say something. Don’t wreck Tron.
