Plan a visit to Fable 2’s Knothole Island

by W. Andrew Powell

Fable 2 fans were teased with its presence in November, but the day has finally arrived.

Microsoft and Lionhead Studios released the Knothole Island downloadable content pack today, giving Fable 2 players three new quests, complete with new gear, weapons, and appearance-altering potions.

For 800 Microsoft Points, gamers can explore the lush island of Knothole, which is dying and freezing up. Only by unlocking the secrets of the three shrines can players save Knothole Island, and bring sunshine back to the frozen isle.

Along with additional quests and items, players who download the Knothole pack will be able to augment weapons in new ways, and find outfits that allow your character to look like a knight, an assassin, a barbarian, or even a leather-clad biker, among others.

The Xbox 360 game was originally released in October, and sold a reported 1.5 million copies around the world in just two weeks. Following the success of the original title in 2004, the sequel offers an immersive roleplaying experience that lets players to be the hero or the villain; dress up, or strip down; marry or divorce; and watch as the world around them changes by their actions.

Fable 2 also has a clever system for dealing with morality choices, letting gamers see the long-term effects of those decisions across the story arc.

Lionhead’s game designer Peter Molyneux took the formula for the original Fable, and delivered a lot of cool, enhanced package for the sequel, and I personally can’t wait to see what else might be in store for fans of the series.
