Samsung Galaxy A50 | Affordable, feature-packed smartphone

The Samsung A50 is a pretty big surprise. While it’s an affordable smartphone, coming in at $499, it’s packed with features and extras that make it one of the best budget Android phones you can buy today.

Whether you’re just looking for a good deal, or need a cheaper device for a family member, the A50 is hard to beat at under $500.

For starters, there’s the battery. The 4000 mAh battery is one of the stars of the phone, making sure it will last you throughout the day, and it charges up fairly quickly as well.

The 6.4″ Super AMOLED FHD+ display is also bright enough for many conditions–indoors or bright sun–and looks good for videos and photos.

While the phone doesn’t support 4K video, it’s still a good display with impressive colours and contrast.

I’m also a big fan of the cameras, including the 25 MP selfie camera, and the triple rear camera array featuring a 25 MP main camera, an 8 MP wide-angle camera, and a 5 MP depth camera. Samsung leverages their processor for some great scene optimization, delivering above-average colours and contrast, even in difficult shooting conditions.

In the 3:4 ratio mode, the 25 MP mode really can capture incredible depth, colour, vibrancy, and detail, but the phone also supports 9:16, 1:1, and full.

In a few conditions, the A50 had trouble correcting the colours and contrast, but overall it worked very well.

Everything I love about the Samsung user interface is on the A50 as well. Samsung’s easy-to-use menus, Link to Windows, Smart View, Secure Folder, Dolby Atmos, and Kids Home too.

The phone is light, at just 166 grams, it has a clean design, and it has both a USB-C port for charging and connecting to your PC, as well as a headphone jack.

That means you can connect any type of headphones you want, whether you’re using Bluetooth, USB-C, or classic headphones.

Samsung also boasts that the phone can play music for up to 92 hours, so you can keep listening for a long time.

For the price, the speaker on the phone is not exactly powerful or rich, but it’s about what you expect for the value.

In terms of the processor and storage, the Samsung A50 has an Exynos 9610 Octa-core that works very well for overall speed and multitasking. With a number of applications open, I had no problem juggling a few tasks at once, with very little slowdown.

The phone also comes with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, but you can, and should, upgrade the storage with the MicroSD card tray. The phone can support up to 512 GB of space, and if you take a lot of photos or videos, I’d suggest 128 GB or even 256 GB is worth it.

Like other Samsung phones, there are also good security options, including unlocking the A50 with face recognition, or through the on-screen fingerprint sensor.

Overall, it’s a great phone for a range of users who don’t need to spend a lot, and it works well with the Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Buds, other Galaxy Wearables, as well as the SmartThings ecosystem.
