Google announces new Chromecast with Google TV, Nest Audio, and Pixel 5

There’s a new entertainment experience, and it’s name is Google TV.

During today’s Launch Night In streaming event, Google revealed four new releases, plus the arrival of Google TV on Chromecast, all launching between October 5 and November 19 in Canada.

Launching first, and the one I’m most excited about, Nest Audio is the new Google smart speaker built for music lovers. Retailing for $129.99 CAD, and available in five colours (Chalk, Charcoal, Sand, Sky, and Sage), the new speaker is available for pre-order now and arrives on October 5.

The speakers feature a Media EQ feature that automatically tunes itself to your music, while Ambient IQ will help adjust volume for the Google Assistant and news or podcasts, so you can still hear over background noise in your home.

Google says the speaker offers “clear, natural and full” sounds that’s “75 per cent louder and has a 50 per cent stronger bass” over their original Google Home speaker. It will also be made with sustainability in mind, including 70 per cent recycled material for the fabric, housing, base, and some small parts.

Chromecast with Google TV launches on October 15 for $69.99 CAD, and will be available in Snow, Sunrise and Sky. Notably, the new devices will come with a remote, and in a compact design that doesn’t take up any space.

In their blog, Google explained, “The new Google TV experience brings together movies, shows, live TV and more from across your apps and subscriptions and organizes them just for you.”

Using their Knowledge Graph to understand and organize your media, topics, and genres, it will be easier to find what you want to watch with Google, and see what’s trending as well.

Available starting October 29, the Pixel 5 is priced at $799 CAD in Just Black or Sorta Sage, and features 5G wireless, a 6″ FHS+ Flexible OLED display, 128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM.

The phone is dust and water resistant too, includes wireless and reverse charging, and a 12MP Dual-Pixel camera, as well as a 16 MP ultrawide camera.

New features being rolled out with the Pixel 5 include Live HDR+, dual exposure controls, improved video quality with Cinematic Pan, Night Sight in Portrait mod, with a 4080 mAh battery.

Finally, the Pixel 4a (5G) will retail for $679 CAD and arrives on November 19 in Just Black.

While the 5G edition of the Pixel 4a will be similar to the Pixel 5, with the same cameras and camera features, it also has a larger 6.2″ display, 3.5mm headphone jack, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, and a 3885 mAh battery.
