Google announced new technology and AI-powered tools yesterday during their annual I/O conference in Mountain View, California, plus three new devices.
The biggest announcements all came back to AI-powered features for Google services and their devices, as well as new tools like Magic Compose for Android, and new features coming with Android 14. They also revealed that, to date, an incredible 200 million cars on the road now support Android Auto.
For fans of Android devices, the big news though was the Pixel Tablet, Pixel 7a, and the Pixel Fold.
Available for purchase now at $599 CAD, the Pixel 7a is Google’s new affordable smart phone, and following in the steps of the Pixel 6a, it’s an impressive device.
Featuring 8 GB of RAM, a 90 Hz display, wireless charging, Pixel Call Assist, and improved camera specs, the Pixel 7a has everything that we’ve come to love about Google’s more affordable phones.
On the other end of the spectrum, Google also announced their first ever foldable phone, the Pixel Fold, and it’s going to be fascinating to test out. Available for $1,799 USD, the phone folds open to reveal a 7.6″ screen, it’s rated IPX8, and the cameras will include 5x optical zoom, Night Sight, and Portrait photography.
Right now, there’s unfortunately no plan to launch the device in Canada, but hopefully that will change.
Finally, my favourite news is the new Pixel Tablet. The Tablet will feature an 11″ display, an aluminum enclosure, and you can pair it with the new Charging Speaker Dock for Hub Mode, making it useful for home controls or watching videos or recipes.
The Pixel Tablet is available for pre-order now for $699 CAD.
