The Hazelton Hotel
118 Yorkville Avenue Toronto Toronto, ON M5R 1C4
Planning a wedding can be a lot of a fun, but of course it’s a daunting task for any couple, no matter if you’re inviting 60 or 600 people. In Toronto, there are dozens of venues that can cater to any style or taste, and while the search for a wedding venue took some time and effort, there was really only one hotel that I had in mind for our wedding night, and that was the five-star Hazelton Hotel in Yorkville.
With our wedding and reception happening down the street at Sassafraz, this sophisticated, elegant property with its comfortable, spacious suites was an obvious choice because it’s truly like few other hotels in Toronto, or even across Canada.
Beyond the hotel’s stylish design, which fits perfectly into Yorkville, and the myriad services, the truly lasting impression the hotel leaves is of professional, friendly service, attentive staff, and careful attention to detail. That astute level of service elevates what is already a fantastic hotel into one of the most memorable of vacation destinations that you will dream of visiting again and again.
Located north of Bloor Street West, on trendy Yorkville Avenue, the Hazelton Hotel was designed to evoke the feeling of a classic 1940s-era Hollywood, from the clean architectural lines inside and out, to the lighting, and even the luxurious granite bathrooms. The design works throughout the hotel and melds the new with the old, allowing the design to permeate every space, including the sixty-two rooms and the fifteen extraordinary suites, without taking away from the fact that the property has every modern amenity.
The Hazelton also boasts impressive dimensions in each of its rooms, with an average of 620 square feet per room, including a foyer, dressing room, a lavish bathroom with soaker tub and rainshower. Other amenities include big-screen HDTVs, Lutron lighting controls throughout the room, French doors that open onto the city, motorized drapes, electronic doorbell and do-not-disturb sign, and a Serta presidential pillow top mattress that will ease you off to sleep when you’re finally done soaking up the hotel’s features.
While the hotel’s style and all of its amenities convinced me I needed to spend my wedding night at the Hazelton, one of the most impressive features that originally had me thinking of the hotel was the like-no-other Silver Screening Room–a beautifully designed 25-seat movie theatre with digital video and a 35mm film projection system. Although we never did find time to watch a movie there, the screening room was our first choice for our photos with our wedding party, which offered one of the most unique experiences with our photographer. Having spent time the theatre for other media events, I can only imagine that it would be a fantastic space to screen a movie for a special event, and it’s beautifully appointed with comfortable seats and tables for a relaxed viewing.
After spending two days in the Hazelton Hotel, I could go on at length about the hotel’s style, the design, the rooms, the food, and even the desirable location, which has you steps away from one of the best shopping areas in the city, but in the end, like any great escape destination, what I think deserves the most attention is the hotel’s five-star staff.
From the moment you walk into the hotel, or drive up to the valet parking, the staff are ready and eager to help you, but the difference between this hotel and many others is that the staff not only put every effort into your needs, but they also truly seem to care about making your stay easy and memorable. Among the various five star hotels I’ve stayed with over the years, I can say that the Hazelton Hotel offers some of the best service I’ve ever enjoyed–beyond all expectations.
Between the friends, family, the photographer and the other wedding helpers we had coming and going into the hotel, the staff and the fantastic conceirge desk were quick to lend a hand when we needed it, keeping us on time for everything, and making sure we never wanted for anything.
That service also extends to the Hazelton’s complimentary extras, which includes many things that other hotels charge for in addition to the base price. Internet access throughout the hotel is included, in addition to complimentary soda in the bar fridge in each room, but the screening room was also free, as was use of any of the pillows on their unique “pillow menu,” and of course, bathroom toiletries and as many towels as you need after relaxing in the tub.
My wife and I had a fantastic, memorable stay that we will both remember for a long time, and we’re already excited to plan future anniversaries with a treat or two from the nearby MoRoCo chocolatier. If you’re planning a trip to Toronto, or a special event in the area, I highly recommend the Hazelton Hotel as stellar five-star destination that will leave you feeling like a Hollywood star. The Hazelton’s staff will most definitely leave you measuring every other service by their incredible standards.
