The Lobster Roll is one of the great Maritime dishes. From Nova Scotia, to Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick, the delectable sandwich is a must when you visit the east coast.
So who makes the best lobster rolls in the Maritimes? There are a lot of great places to enjoy the delicacy, but a few special restaurants stand out thanks to last year’s Lobster Roll Challenge.
The Shediac Lobster Festival celebrated their 75th anniversary last year with a very special competition to name the best lobster roll in the Maritimes. With special judges and competitors from around the provinces, they sampled from seven of the best chefs.
So where do you need to go this summer for the best lobster rolls?
Chef Jordan Holden, executive chef at Atelier Tony in Dieppe, was named the winner of the Lobster Roll Challenge. If you’re visiting Moncton or Dieppe, I highly recommend a stop at the restaurant, and their take on the lobster roll looks incredible.
Second place went to chef Jane Crawford from Abbiocco Ristorante in Charlottetown, PEI.
And third place went to chef Robert Pendergast from the Summerside Lobster Carnival in PEI.
The competition also included other top chefs, and if you can, you should try their food too: Wendell MacKay, chef at Capt Kats from Barrington, NS; Adam Lund, executive chef at the Moncton Coliseum/Legends Restaurant, NB; Mathieu Hébert, entrepreneur and president at Lolex Sales Agency Inc. from Cap-Acadie, NB; and Lucas Michel, Pâtissier Chocalitier at Adorable Chocolat from Shediac, NB.
The Shediac Lobster Festival runs from July 5 to 13, 2025. If you’re looking for lobster, music, games, and special events in New Brunswick this summer, it’s a fantastic event close to some of the best beaches in the province.
