A luxury escape to Turks & Caicos

by W. Andrew Powell

Turks and Caicos: The Regent Palms
Sun destinations are a fantastic way to escape the chill of Canada’s fall and winter months, but recently I had the good fortune of something a little bit grander than a simple getaway.

For a week I was lucky enough to spend time at some of the most luxurious resorts in Turks and Caicos, where I have to admit it felt a bit more like I was escaping to a real life Fantasy Island. Even weeks later, after my tan is fading, I still have to admit that it was one of the most memorable, amazing trips I have ever taken.

Over the week that we were in Turks and Caicos, Aisha and I visited three fantastic resorts: The Regent Palms, Grace Bay Club, and the private Valhalla of Parrot Cay. (We also had a sneak peek at Grace Bay Club’s newest addition, The Estate, but I’ll have to come back to that another time.)

In this short entry I can hardly do the properties justice, but as I work on the much larger articles, I couldn’t help but give you a little preview.

During the week we went snorkeling, experienced a sunset cruise with the wonderful people at Sun Charters, had dinner at some of the most amazing restaurants (including Parallel23 at The Regent Palms), and explored the island’s pristine turquoise waters.

It was also stunning to fly in over the islands and see the ridge of water that circles Providenciales and the nearest islands. From the beach all you can see is the constant break of waves against this ridge, where the ocean shelf suddenly just drops away. It’s a beautiful sight, even just from the beach, and because the area before the shelf is relatively shallow, at least compared to the open ocean, the sunlights makes the waters glow the most brilliant colours.

The trouble with a trip like this is that a few days in any one of these places is nothing short of a horrible tease. A week would be a bare minimum for a good trip, and even spread out over all of the properties we visited, that felt far too short as well.

But the beauty of Turks and Caicos, and these resorts, was that they are all total escapes from the norm. A few days may not have been long enough to really enjoy everything the properties had to offer, but it was enough to get tuned into a fresh vibe, to lay under the sun, eat the most exquisite food, and realize that I won’t be happy until I go back again. Real estate is very interesting here, I can’t wait to hire the best property valuation company in Perth and see what they have to say about a few key properties here. If the stars align, who knows, I might end up here.

I’ll be working on a number of articles about the trip, and each of the resorts, so check back for those in December and January. Until then, head over to www.turksandcaicostourism.com to learn more about Turks and Caicos.
