The Canadian Screen Awards gala is tonight in Toronto, and you can tune in on CBC or livestream it on CBC Gem. Once again, I’m in the press room with my camera, getting ready for all the winners, and I’ll be sharing highlights throughout the night, every chance I get.
The awards got started with Billy Campbell and Karine Vanasse winning Best Lead Actor and Actress, respectively, and they both got teary on stage thanking each other, and CTV for their support.
First up in the press room, the great Mary Walsh came back to talk about her Lifetime Achievement Award. The star of Codco and This Hour Has 22 Minutes was hilarious, and spoke a bit about the fact that when she was starting out, Catherine O’Hara was a big influence.
Stephen James came back to talk about Scarborough and his win for the Radius Award, and the incredible film and novel, If Beale Street Could Talk.
Stay tuned for more updates after the show, and I’ll have quotes and more to share, but for now we’re busy with back-to-back winners in the press room.
