The Canadian Screen Awards gala is tonight in Toronto, and you can tune in on CBC or livestream it on CBC Gem. Once again, I’m in the press room with my camera, getting ready for all the winners, and I’ll be sharing highlights throughout the night, every chance I get.
Canadian Screen Awards
Welcome backstage to the press room at the 2017 Candys, or as they’re also called, the Canadian Screen Awards. The afternoon started with the red carpet arrivals, and now we’ve moved on to the live telecast where the stars are coming back to chat.
Tonight’s a big night in Toronto for film and television as the gala for the Canadian Screen Awards brings Canada’s stars and filmmakers together at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts. Awards have been handed out throughout the week, but tonight’s trophies cover the big categories, including Best Performances for film and television, Fan Choice awards, and Best Dramatic and Comedy Series.
The Canadian Screen Awards kicked off on Monday, and it’s now Sunday, and since then there have been lots of awards handed out, but the big day is really the Canadian Screen Awards gala which started with a red carpet late this afternoon.

Canadian Screen Awards winners: Jordan Gavaris, Callum Keith Rennie, Graeme Manson & Rick Mercer
The Canadian Screen Awards have been celebrating film and television, and handing out honours for our fair country, for a few days now, and Wednesday, February 25 was a big night for Jordan Gavaris, Callum Keith Rennie, Graeme Manson, and Rick Mercer.
The inaugural Canadian Screen Awards were handed out in Toronto during two industry nights on Wednesday, February 27 and Thursday, February 28, and during a live telecast from the Sony Centre on Sunday, March 3.
The trophy doesn’t have a flashy nickname yet (I’ve been calling them the Screenies, but when I asked Richard Crouse, he thinks they should be affectionately called the “Gemininies”), but the Canadian Screen Awards represents the new honour for the best in Canadian film, television, and digital media.
